2UNDR | VGT Amateur Spring Championship
Northview Golf & CC | June 6 – Canal Course | June 7 – Ridge Course
Tournament Review
Langley’s Tyler Roope was in complete control of his game at VGT’s 2UNDR Spring Amateur Championship this weekend at Northview. He fired near flawless rounds of 68, 65 (-11) on the Canal Course then the Ridge Course for an impressive 10 shot win over his nearest competitors including Maple Ridge’s Kris Yardley and BC Players Club Vancouver golfer David Gomes.
Roope’s closing round of 65 included 3 birdies and 2 eagles and his 10 shot margin would go down in the VGT record books as widest margin of victory in a 36-hole VGT Amateur event as well as the lowest 36 hole total to par in an Amateur VGT event. Awesome golf Tyler!!
Congrats to both Tyler and his coach Phil Jonas (both from Hazelmere Golf Course) on the incredible work to get Tyler’s game in such solid form to shoot these scores! Tyler has been training with long-time PGA of BC Professional and VGT Pro for the past 18 months. Roope had been recovering from an appendix surgery last year and has been working very hard with Jonas this spring, so to see this result is very rewarding indeed.
Best of luck the remainder of the tournament season including the upcoming BC Amateur qualifier at Sandpiper Tyler!
Further congrats go to Flight A Winner John Mackenzie (161 off blue tees) and Flight B Winner Brad Heath (153 off white tees) for taking down Low Gross honors against their peers!
A total of 73 amateur players teed-it-up in the event and players were privy to some really amazing course conditions both days! Thank-you Dave Fehr of Northview for setting the course in beautiful shape both days!
And hats off to the whole Northview Golf & CC Team for their super hospitality and service throughout the weekend. Job well done ladies and gentlemen!
