Nick Taylor has Timely finish on Back Nine in 2nd Round of West Coast GG Pro-am
(June 12, 2012 – Langley, BC) – Challenging conditions took their toll on many round one challengers in day two action at the VGT-West Coast Golf Group Pro-am at Hazelmere. Heavy rough, firming greens and tucked pins created havoc for a number of golfers, but not for round one leader Nick Taylor. Tee-ing off on the 10th tee, Taylor started with an opening birdie on his seventh hole (#16). But an errant tee-shot on his 8th hole (17th hole proper) sailed into the hazard left of the green, and resulted in his first major blemish in 2 days. But Taylor soon steadied the ship and made the most of his finish, birdying 3 of his last 5 holes to shoot a 2-under par 70, posting the low 36-hole score of the event.
Taylor takes a one shot lead into the final round tomorrow at Swan-e-set Resort over San Diego Pro Chris Cunningham, who scored rounds of 65, 71 over the two days. Nanaimo Professional Darren Griff had the round of the day, firing a 68, including a run of 4 birdies on his front nine over six holes. He sits in a tie for 3rd place with Creighton Honeck of Austin, Texas at -5 and two shots back of Taylor.
The top 20 and ties in today’s field advanced to tomorrow’s final round at Swaneset Resort. This resulted in twenty-four golfers advancing to the final round with a score of +2 or better. This included Hazelmere’s own Teaching Professional Phil Jonas, who struggled on the day with a round of 76 to just make it into the final round at +2. West Coast Golf Group’s Luke Bogdan of Belmont , sits in a 8th place on his own at -2, while Nationwide Tour Professional Stuart Anderson moved in the right direction today with a nice round of 70 for a 36 hole total of -3. Anderson sits in 7th place and just 4 shots off the lead heading into tomorrow.
Final round action gets underway at 7:00am at Swaneset Resort in Pitt Meadows with our leaders Nick Taylor and Chris Cunningham tee-ing-off at 9:00am. Players are competing for a total purse of $32,500 and a winners’ cheque of $7,500.
Players will also be fighting for 4,000 valuable CLEVELAND/SRIXON -VGT Order of Merit Points, with the year-end winner taking home a trip to the PGA Tour Qualifying School ($5,000 value). Second place on this year’s CLEVELAND/SRIXON Order of Merit will win a paid entry to the European Tour Q-School, valued at approximately $2,200.
