Beach Grove Golf Club
VGT Tournament in Review
Not many golfers would be this determined, but Bear Mountain Professional Riley Wheeldon was certainly that guy, bombing up the I-5 from Phoenix in 2 days to make it to his tee-time and defend his Garside Open Title at Beach Grove Golf Club this Monday.
“Now that’s going the extra mile”, commented VGT Commissioner Fraser Mulholland.
All joking aside, Wheeldon did need to come back home to get his car serviced and he admitted that after 4 months down in the desert he was a bit home sick and that it was going to be good to be home for a week or 2.
Wheeldon will make his way back down Phoenix, Arizona to complete his schedule on the Dream Chaser Tour, an Arizona based mini tour where fellow VGT Professionals Ryan Williams Golf Seann Harlingten Cory Renfrew David Rose & Brendan Dillon have been keeping their games sharp thru the off season. (and doing very well I might add…Ryan W #1, Seann H #2, Riley W #6 on money list)
Wheeldon will return home in late April /May to play a few more VGT events in preparation for the 2017 Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada Q-School and upcoming schedule as well as lock away as many points on the VGT Srixon Cleveland Golf Order of Merit as he can to attempt to successfully defend his top spot from 2016!
Shout-outs go to runners up Jamie Oleskiew (Redwoods) & Luke Bogdan (Ledgeview Golf) with some nice rounds of 68 (-3).
While we are on the subject of making a huge effort to get to our events, a huge shout-out to our Overall Low Amateur Alex Lee from Seattle, Washington. Alex fired an exceptional round of 67 (-4) good for tie with Wheeldon for overall score and a 1 shot win in the Amateur field over Richmond Country Club member Robbie Woods.
Flight A Low Gross honors went to Steve McIntosh (79) and Net to Tony Lachapelle (71).
Flight B Low Gross Honors went to Robert Parihar (82) with Low Net honors going to Dayton Moore (69).

Certainly not to be forgotten are the thank-yous we must make to all the people for making this day happen.
To all the VGT Team members, volunteers, VGT sponsors including our Title Sponsor Brad Garside of Paine Edmonds Lawyers, this day was made possible by all of you!
Special thanks for the generous support of British Columbia Golf Rules Officials and to Beach Grove Golf Club for their outstanding support of our event.
From the exceptional service we received from your clubhouse and golf shop staff (thx Richard, Caitlin, Alan, B, Shaun, CRB) to the amazing meal and the conditions that ‘Super’ Ian Murray and his team were able to provide our players given a 3 hour frost delay, Beach Grove is to be given 2 huge thumbs up! Your members are very lucky to have such a great layout in exceptional conditions and a very solid group of individuals working around the clock for you!!
Final thanks to the Beach Grove members for giving up their golf club for what turned out to be pretty much the whole day!!
We look forward to working with you this season and promoting the Beach Grove Golf Club and your amazing Amateur Championship (the BG Amateur) to our members and golf database this year!! See u in August and thanks again for the outstanding day!
Fraser Mulholland
Commissioner, VGT
