VGT MAJOR SERIES #3 | Pagoda Ridge/Royalwood | May 17,18th
Riley Wheeldon of Comox, BC put down another very impressive performance on the VGT this week firing rounds of 65, 66 at Pagoda Ridge Golf Course in Langley and Royalwood Golf Course in Chilliwack.
Wheeldon was 3 shots out in front of both Royalwood Pro James Allenby and West Vancouver’s Seann Harlingten at the start of round 2. But thru 9 holes Wheeldon’s lead had evaporated after a legendary run by Harlingten, who bogeyed the 1st, then rattled off 4 birdies and an eagle to go out in 31 (-5), and catching Wheeldon at -9.
But it was Wheeldon’s perseverance that allowed him to pull away from Harlingten at the end, carding a 4-under par 32 on the inward nine that included an eagle and 2 birdies on the last 5 holes to seal the win and the $1,600 winners cheque!
Harlingten Playing the Maiden in the Month of May
For the third week in a row Seann Harlingten fell victim to some stellar play to finish runner-up on the VGT, this being the 2nd time to Wheeldon and last week to Point Grey’s Ryan Williams. His -9 performance this week and -11 showing last week leads me to believe that we will see him up near the top of the leaderboard this year on the Mackenzie Tour with Wheeldon and many of their associates who have been playing some outstanding Golf this spring with VGT!
I hope to see many VGT friends and followers out at Point Grey Golf & Country Club to cheer Wheeldon, Harlingten, Williams and all our players on at the Freedom 55 Financial Open!
Special mention goes to Fort Langley Golf Course member Jeff Sheldon for taking home Low Amateur honors over the 36 holes after rounds of 76, 70 for the win!!
