2015 MURCHISON, THOMSON & CLARKE LAWYERS OPEN
Morgan Creek Golf Course | May 30th, 2015
Tournament Review
Let’s just say one week can make a difference to a golfers life! At least for Ledgeview’s Kyle Gerard it does. Coming off one of his worst showings this year on the VGT at the Sandpiper Open after an opening round of 90 and slightly better 2nd day of 79 that included a stretch of 3 holes at 7-over par, let’s just say Gerard wasn’t beaming with confidence.
But golf is a weird and wonderful game. Find something that works and the confidence can start flowing in the right direction. And that’s exactly what Gerard did. He took the positives away from his 2nd day at Sandpiper (back nine of 1 over) into some practice sessions. And continued to stay positive thru the week in preparation for Morgan Creek. He persevered even on his round at the MTC Open where he birdied of his last 4 holes to shoot even par 72, and earn the title with a 2 shot victory over 13 year old golfer Susan Xiao.
“It’s sweet redemption after last week” stated Gerard at the trophy presentation. “I had to take advantage of today with some of the top VGT Players not in the field, so glad I could catch up to order of merit leader (Mark Heinrich) a bit”. No doubt Heinrich and many of VGT’s top players will be looking to get back into the winner’s circle next weekend at the 2UNDR VGT Spring Championship at Northview. One thing for sure. Gerard will be doing his best to make it 2 straight wins on the VGT!!
In Flight A, VGT regular David McCullough of North Vancouver earned Low Gross honors with a score of 78, good for a 1 shot victory over Quilchena’s Tony Zhou while in Flight B action it was Rob MacKinnon of Northview Golf Course who took the title with a Gross score of 86, one shot clear of 3 VGT regulars.
All three Flight winners earned themselves a sweet BUSHNELL V3 ‘JOLT’ rangefinder and crystal trophy while Low Net and 2nd Low Gross winners each earned a $200 CLEVELAND/SRIXON gift credit. All totaled, over $6,000 in amateur gifts and prizing were offered thanks to title sponsors MURCHISON, THOMSON & CLARKE LAWYERS and our wonderful prize partners CLEVELAND, SRIXON, Travis Mathew, 2UNDR and Projekt.
Special thanks to Murchison, Thomson & Clarke for their continued support of the VGT and this event the past 5 years! Your partnership in golf does not go un-noticed and we really appreciate you giving the VGT players an amazing opportunity to play a premier Morgan Creek Golf Course, which was in outstanding condition during the event! It is especially great of you to invite 2 young and talented golfers , Susan Xiao and Hunter Phelan to come and play your event and give them such a great experience! Susan, a 13 year old junior finished in 2nd Low Gross with a score of 74 and Hunter, last year’s champion, one shot back at 75.
