Kevin Stinson / Josh Taylor (#2 Seed) Vs. Brian Jung (a) / Min Gu Kang (#8 Seed)
The 36-hole Canada Bread BC Match Play Finals is scheduled at Northview Golf & Country Club this Sunday, April 17th and promises to be an exciting battle between two teams with up and coming Canadian talent. With last year’s champion team of Dave Zibrik and Kevin Hogg surprising knock-out in the Quarter-Finals, this year’s Canada Bread BC Match Play team crown is up for grabs.
19-Year old Swan-e-set Amateur Brian Jung and Sophomore Professional Min Gu Kang have shown a great amount of consistency in their play in all their matches thus far, including a knock-out blow to the #1 Seeds Zibrik/Hogg at Kings Links last weekend. Jung, The #2 ranked BC Junior and #11 ranked Canadian junior in 2010 is off to Oregon State University this fall, following the footsteps of fellow Canadian Mitch Gillis to one of the top U.S. golf programs in the Pacific Northwest. Jung has had a pretty good track record of late, being a part of a first place Thomas Haney high school team in 2007, and a second and third place finish with Gleneagles high school at the BC High School Championships. Last year he had impressive 4th place finishes at the Eddie Hogan Cup and tied for 2nd overall at the 2010 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship carding the low score of 64 in the tournament.
Jung and Kang will be paired against a young team of Sophomore Professionals – Josh Taylor and Kevin Stinson, both of whom developed their talents playing out of the Ledgeview Golf & Country Club. Taylor, a recent graduate of UTEP (Texas El Paso) has a 100% record coming into the BC Match Play Championship, pairing up with James Allenby as an Amateur in 2006 to win the title when the event was run as an Amateur Match Play Championship. Stinson graduated from Wayland Baptist University in December of ’09 and stayed on to coach the women’s program for one year. Both he and Taylor turned Professional on VGT in 2010 and have been refining their play on VGT’s 2011 Spring Series of events. Stinson recently earned his Canadian Tour Card in the fall of 2010 and is gearing up for a full year on the Canadian Tour this summer.
Spectators are encouraged to come watch the endless talent that will be on display at Northview Golf & Country Club! Admission is FREE.
