Coming off a top 15 finish on the eGolf Tour in Morocco and a victory in the Bacardi National Par 3 Championship in Bermuda, Abbotsford’s Nick Taylor is back on home soil for a bit of rest, some time with his PGA Coach (Rob Houlding), some good old fashioned home cooking and a couple of stops on the Vancouver Golf Tour (VGT).
The 22 year old Taylor tees-it-up in VGT’s second CLEVELAND/SRIXON Order of Merit Event this Friday, April 8th at the Sandpiper Golf Resort and will stay and play in VGT’s next event on Friday, April 15th at his home track at Ledgeview Golf & Country Club.
VGT Commissioner Fraser Mulholland interviewed Nick Taylor on his recent trip to Morocco and his upcoming rookie season as a Touring Professional. When asked about his recent tournament experience on the eGolf Tour in Morocco, Taylor chimed in: “I had a pretty good run at my first event in Morocco a few weeks ago. I played really well the first two days and other than some poor starts both days on the weekend, I was pretty happy with my play overall”. “The tour was very well run and if I was given the chance to go back there again for the experience, I probably would”.
“Now that I’m home”, Taylor added “I’m looking forward to preparing as regular a tournament schedule as I can this year. It’s good that I’ve got a handful of starts on the Canadian Tour this year which will come on my schedule after a trip down south to play a couple of events.
Those ‘couple of events’ just so happen to be some pretty major tournaments. The first of those is a trip to the local qualifier for the U.S. Open (which he has twice qualified for) in the first week of May. Then he’ll head down to Fort Worth, Texas where he will tee-it-up on the PGA Tour’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial May 19-22nd. In 2010, Taylor received a special invitation to the ’11 Colonial thanks to being the recipient of the Ben Hogan Award, which recognizes the outstanding male amateur and collegiate golfer of the year. Taylor will be in pretty elite company at the Hogan Awards Dinner that week, as recent Hogan recipients include Bill Haas, D.J. Trahan, Hunter Mahan, Ricky Barnes, Chris Kirk and Rickie Fowler. Nice list to be a part of!!!
When asked how he felt going into the (Colonial) event, Taylor commented “I’ve played the course a few times over the past couple of years, so I feel pretty good heading into the tournament with that golf course knowledge”. “But I will definitely be going down a few days early to see any other possible changes to the course prior to my opening round”.
Taylor will be back up in BC at the end of May to start his first leg on the Canadian Tour starting with the Times Colonist/Island Savings Open in Victoria. That is, if he doesn’t finish in the top 10 in the Colonial which would ultimately earn him a spot into the following PGA Tour event at the Byron Nelson Championship. With his exceptional record as an Amateur golfer, you just never know!!!
“Its just great to have a player like This just might be VGT’s strongest one-day field in history” stated VGT Commissioner Fraser Mulholland. “With the calibre of players in our Pro and Championship Amateur Flights I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sandpiper’s course record broken this Friday!”
The April 8th VGT Sandpiper Classic will feature over 100 Professional and Amateur golfers competing for over $8,500 in Cash and Prizes. Spectators are welcome and admission is FREE for the whole day! The weather is supposed to be sunny and 12 degrees, so come on out!
