VGT Tournament Updates
CANADA BREAD BC MATCH PLAY
1ST Round Matches, Sandpiper Golf Resort – Saturday, April 2nd
The 2011 Canada Bread BC Match Play Team Championship gets underway this weekend, with round of 64 matches getting underway at the Sandpiper Golf Resort in Harrison Mills this Saturday. Westwood Plateau Teaching Professional Dave Zibrik and amateur partner Kevin Hogg are set to defend their title in this year’s championship. As first seed in the event, they will be taking on the 32nd seeded team of Derek Whipple and Curt Gamache. After spending 5 days down in Bandon Dunes last week, they seem primed to be the first team in many years to defend their crown in this historic 65 year old event.
Top Seeded Teams to watch:
Second seeded team of rookie Canadian Tour player Kevin Stinson and 2nd year VGT Professional Josh Taylor who were overall low score from last weekend’s qualifier. Also to keep an eye out for are the veteran pairing of Tom Huth and two-time Match Play Champion Andrew Smeeth as well as 2007 Champions Dan Swanson and Richard Kellington. Newcomers to the event with a top seeding are the 3rd seeded team of Brendan Southwind and rookie Professional Aaron Dimich, both representing University Golf Course.
Tough Opening Round Matches:
Watch out for this barn-burner of a match as the brother duo of Matt and Corey Steger take on rookie professional Andrew Hennings and his partner Mewail Kidane, who was part of the 2009 winning team. Another match that looks good to go the finish is the pairing of Oliver Tubb and Rob Williams versus Matt Daniel and Paul Penman. Both teams sporting Canadian Tour pros and a solid amateur partner make for a great opening round match!!

All second round matches continue this Sunday, April 3rd at Pitt Meadows, Beach Grove, Richmond Country Club and Quilchena Golf & Country Club. Quarter-finals and semi-finals matches continue on Masters weekend and finals get underway at Northview Ridge on Sunday, April 17th.
