Tournament in Review
After playing flawless golf thru the first 16 holes at -3 for the day, 18 year old Pitt Meadows Junior Member Andrew Rasmussen seemed like he was in the clear to win his first VGT event. However, after a triple bogey on 17 and a bogey on 18, Rasmussen closed with a score of 73 and looked like his chance at the title was in jeopardy. One of VGT’s most consistent Amateurs in 2010 David Cao was half way through the turn at +1 and Rasmussen waited patiently to see if his score would hold up or not.
When Cao made a birdie on #12 to go to even par for the day, it looked like he would come home for his third Amateur title of the year. However, late bogeys on 15 and 16 and a closing double bogey on #18 eventually gave Rasmussen a 2-shot victory over local Hazelmere junior Callum Robinson.
Rasmussen won a Cleveland carry bag and a $100 gift card to Marketplace IGA for his win while Robinson won a Cleveland CG15 wedge and a $50 Marketplace IGA gift card as well as winning the KP on #17 to gain a spot in the Johnston Meier Insurance $1Million Shoot-out.
In Flight A action, Delta’s Raj Singh took down Low Gross honours with a score of 78 and a two shot victory over Meadow Gardens member Masa Takahashi. Singh won a Never Compromise putter and a $100 Marketplace IGA gift card while Takahashi won a Cleveland Travel Cover set and a $50 Marketplace IGA gift card. Takahashi also took low net honours with a score of 71.
In Flight B, Hector Aguilar proved victorious with a gross score of 80 and a four shot victory over Mission member Dave Ebner. Aguilar won a Never Compromise putter and a $100 Marketplace IGA gift card and Ebner won a Cleveland CG15 wedge for being Low Net on the day.
