2010 VGT SWAN-E-SET CLASSIC
Sunday, May 16th
Swan-e-set Resort GC
On a perfectly sunny day at the scenic Swan-e-set Resort course in Pitt Meadows, 22-year old Adam Cornelson came to play and he did just that. Firing off 4-birdies and a solid round of even par 72, Cornelson bested the 76 player field to take his second victory on the Vancouver Golf Tour in 2010. “The golf course was in fantastic shape today so hats off to Swan-e-set’s greens crew for putting the golf course in Championship shape for the event”. When asked by VGT Commissioner Fraser Mulholland on what he could attribute his good play of late, Cornelson replied “I’ve been working hard on my game the past few years and its been great to have VGT to stay competitive both in the Amateur only events as well as playing up against the top Professionals like Bryn Parry and Phil Jonas”. It’s really giving me a great perspective as to what is required to make it further in golf at the highest level, particularly if my aim is to turn professional in the near future”.
With his win Cornelson vaulted himself ahead of the past leader on the CLEVELAND/SRIXON Order of Merit with a total of 5,450 points, some 150 points ahead of Northview’s Derek Wray after 6 events. Cornelson took home a Cleveland Launcher DST 3-Wood, a VGT Jacket and a dozen Srixon Z-Star Balls for his victory. Runner-up in the Championship flight went to The Redwoods own Jesse Singh who fired a 75 on the day.
In Flight A action, Jim Zalusky made it two-for-two in his last two events, shooting a gross score of 80 on the day and winning a Cleveland Hybrid Club and VGT Pullover. Zalusky jumped ahead of David Grabowski on the Flight A Order of Merit with 3,256 points. Low Net score went to Pitt Meadow’s Dave Dodsworth with a net 71.
In Flight B, Carnoustie’s Robert Parihar fired a Gross score of 85 to win top marks. Parihar also took home a Cleveland Launcher DST 3-wood and a VGT pullover for the win. Vancouver’s Jason Boyd took top Net score at 71 and won himself a Cleveland 3 piece travel set. Dave Woodsford continues to lead the Flight B Order of Merit with 4,000 points, some 1,200 points ahead of his next challenger Mark McLeary of Seymour Golf Club. |
