Tournament Details

The VGT SANDPIPER OPEN is a 36-Hole VGT Stroke play tournament for male and female Professionals and Championship Amateurs (5.0 handicap factor or less) contested at Sandpiper Golf Course.

Round 1: 8am Start. Play is in 3-somes both days
Round 2: 8am start.  Leaders off at approx. 12:00pm

Three Divisions:

  • Professional
  • Championship Amateur (+3.0 to 5.0)
  • Women's Open (Pros + Amateurs 5.0 & under)

Full Field Size: 76 (44 Pros & 32 Amateurs)

Professional Purse: $13,000*.  (*based on full field).

First Place: $3,000*. Top 40% of Professional field will be paid out.
*(based on full field & includes a portion allocated to Women's Purse if 5+ women entered in the field)

Women’s Open Prizing: Top 40% of Women's Field will be paid out**.  Pros & Amateurs will compete in same field.  Pros will earn cash & Amateurs will earn prize credits. 

**Based on a minimum of 5 women in the field.  If less than 5, women will compete in their own division vs. Male Pros or Amateurs from an equidistant yardage.

Championship Amateur Prizing:

*Based on a full field, the top 10 Amateurs will be awarded the following prize credits:

  • 1st Place Gross:  $500 Sponsor Prize Credits
  • 2nd Place Gross: $350 Sponsor Prize Credits
  • 3rd Place Gross:  $275 Sponsor Prize Credits
  • 4th Place Gross:  $200 Sponsor Prize Credits
  • 5th Place Gross:  $175 Sponsor Prize Credits
  • 6th Place Gross:  $150 Sponsor Prize Credits
  • 7th Place Gross:  $125 Sponsor Prize Credits
  • 8th Place Gross:  $100 Sponsor Prize Credits
  • 9th Place Gross:  $75 Sponsor Prize Credits
  • 10th Place Gross: $50 Sponsor Prize Credits

Eligibility

Priority entry will be given to VGT Members in both the Professional and Amateur field. However, Non-Members are eligible to play if the tournament field is not full at the end of the Registration Deadline on April 20.  Non-members are recommended to register in advance as non-member entries will be accepted in priority of their entries being received if we have space available for some but not all non-members waiting for the field to be open at the deadline.

  • AM - VGT Member: $210+GST = $220.50
  • AM - Non-Member: $250+GST = $262.50
  • PRO - VGT Member: $325+GST = $341.25
  • PRO - PGA of Canada: $375+GST = $393.75
  • PRO - Non-Carded (non-VGT): $425+GST = $446.25

*In lieu of the change of venue from Morgan Creek to Sandpiper, all players will receive a complimentary pair of 2UNDR Premium Briefs ($30 value).

Practice Rounds

Amateurs: Please contact Sandpiper Golf Course at 604.796.1000 to arrange a practice round.  VGT Amateur Members are entitled to practice rounds at the VGT Preferred Rate of $45/player year-round valid Monday-Friday excluding holidays after 12pm. Professionals: Please contact General Manager Ted Swaine at 604.796.1000 or email Ted Swaine at ted@sandpiperresort.ca to request a practice round at an off-peak time M-F.  Tee-times are at the discretion of the GM.

Players must show either their 2020 VGT Membership Card or confirmation of payment for the VGT Masters event to receive preferred green fee price.

Course Details & Location

Sandpiper Golf Course, recent winner of the PGA of BC’s “Hidden Gem” awards, is located 75 minutes East of Vancouver and is open to the public 364 days a year. This par 72 course runs 6,500 yards from the back tees, and is gently sloped, featuring four sets of tees for all playing abilities.  Canadian course designer, Russ Olsen, has done an amazing job of taking advantage of the spectacular water and mountain vistas when designing this masterpiece. Sandpiper Golf Course has played host to several Vancouver Golf Tour events, most notably the BC Match Play, the VGT’s Player’s Championship & the First Class Waste Inc Fraser Valley Open.

Srixon/Cleveland Order of Merit

Both the Professional OOM and Amateur OOMs will be based on the following point system for full fields based on gross results.  Order of Merit Points may be modified in any given event based on field size.

YEAR END PLAYER AWARDS

Due to Covid-19 disrupting many of our sponsors’ commitments, all year-end player awards are TBC until further notice, other than some great news that JM MEDIA GROUP has committed to a $2,500 PRIZE for our Top Professional at the end of the VGT season.  Please see below all Year-end Award announcements:

Professional Order Of Merit

Based on all Regular Season results:

  • $2,500 JM MEDIA GROUP – PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD!
    • One (1) x $2,500 Award sponsored by JM MEDIA GROUP
    • This award must be used for Q-School Entry Fees and/or fees associated with Q-School (hotel, flights, etc)
    • The award will be determined by points accumulated through the year on VGT (and other global tours). 
  • SRIXON / CLEVELAND ORDER OF MERIT AWARD – At this time is TBC
    The top Professional for the entire VGT season earns a bonus (amount TBC) at the end of the 2020 Tour Championship.  The previously posted $2,500 Q-School award is currently on hold due to Covid-19 possibly affecting Srixon's ability to support this bonus. As soon as we know either way, we will post what is going to be guaranteed for our Player of the Year.

  • TOP SRIXON / CLEVELAND STAFF PLAYER:  BONUS TBC
    At this time the $1,000 SRIXON/CLEVELAND STAFF PLAYER BONUS is on hold until further notice.  Players are still required to play a minimum of 8 SRIXON / CLEVELAND clubs and the SRIXON Z-Star or SRIXON Z-Star XV ball in order to qualify for any SRIXON CASH BONUS made available at end of the year!

  • ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - CASH AWARD TBC

Maui Jim Women's Series Order of Merit 

At this time the Maui Jim Women's Division is on hold until further notice since Maui Jim's sponsorship for now is on hold.  We will continue to keep the Women's Series Order of Merit Standings LIVE for those women who are competing and if Maui Jim gives us their commitment at some point in 2020, we will make an announcement at such a time.

Amateur Order of Merit

  • Based on a player’s best 10 results from 2020 Spring/Summer season
  • Five Amateur Flights:
    • Championship Flight (5.0 & less)
    • Flight A (5.1 to 10.0)
    • Flight B (10.1 to 18.0)
    • Senior (55+ years of age)
    • Women’s Division
  • Top players win prizes
    • Order of Merit Prize Values this year are TBC.  They will ultimately be a function of sponsorship support that VGT receives in the coming weeks and months.  We thank-you for your patience in posting these bonuses.
    • All Order of Merit Flight Winners will be guaranteed to receive at special award recognizing their achievement and a Prize valued no less than $500/person.
