VGT HAZELMERE CLASSIC
Hazelmere Golf Course
Sunday, August 16th, 2009

Aaron Dimich from University Golf CourseOn Sunday, August 18th, a group of serious amateur golfers came to compete for the 2009 VGT Hazelmere Classic. On what turned out to be a perfect golfing day, these golfers put their ability to the test on a surprisingly difficult tournament set-up, one that closely rivaled pins found on Sunday at the 2009 City of Surrey Invitational.

With a score of 74, Aaron Dimich (right) from University Golf Course was crowned the new VGT amateur champion at the 2009 VGT Hazelmere Classic. Aaron’s scorecard, which included a birdie and an eagle, beat Dean Walters of South Africa by one shot. For Aaron’s good play he won a pair of Hi-Tec Golf Shoes valued at $150 and a $150 Perfect Lies gift certificate. With the course playing difficult, Dean also showed consistent play throughout his round, capturing two birdies. But due to an unfortunate ruling that ultimately went against him at the conclusion of his round, a play-off was narrowly diverted. For Dean’s play, he takes home a Galvin Green Windstopper quarter-zip jacket valued at $250.

In the Amateur A Flight, Low Gross honours went to Joe Baudash of Surrey, BC with a score of 85. Joe also took home a pair of Hi-Tec Golf Shoes valued at $150 and a $100 Marketplace IGA gift certificate. Low Net honours in this flight went to Dale Borland of Northview Golf Course.

In the Amateur B Flight, Low Gross Honours went to Pete Fung of New Westminster also took home a pair of Hi-Tec Golf Shoes valued at $150 and a $100 Marketplace IGA gift certificate. Low Net Honours in this flight went to Alex Duran of Vancouver, BC.

With the conclusion of the 2009 VGT Hazelmere Classic, the CLEVELAND GOLF/ SRIXON CANADA ORDER OF MERIT leaders are as follows:

Championship Amateur Flight
Matthew Rohatensky - 3,580 points.

Flight A Division
Steve Smith - 2,903 points

Flight B Division
David Patterson - 2,810 points

VGT would like to congratulate former amateurs Daniel Lee and Adam Lempka on successfully obtaining completing their PAT and obtaining CPGA status. With the 2009 Vancouver Open in just under 4 weeks, these three VGT Amateur flights are still hotly contested as first place honours in each flight will also gain 1,500 points.

Again, congratulations to all winners at the 2009 VGT Hazelmere Classic. We look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming Vancouver Open on September 13, 14, and 15 at Fraserview, Langara and McCleery Golf Courses. Registration deadline is Sunday, August 30th!!!!

I would like to take this time to thank the Hazelmere Golf Course for hosting such a great event this past Sunday and for maintaining the golf course in Canadian Tour-like conditions.

I would also like to acknowledge the continued effort of the VGT Events Team (you know who you are!!!).

Cheers,
